coinjoin

terrify the surveillance state. coinjoin your bitcoin.

several owners sign one transaction. their inputs differ, but from outside the equal outputs cannot be matched to any of them.

no central coordinator, makers offer coins for a fee, takers pick them and build the transaction.

  • nothing in the middle: no service schedules the rounds, picks the owners or holds the coins
  • no round to wait for: makers stay online for the fees, a taker starts when it wants
  • the taker pays: each maker's fee and the mining fee
  • over tor: directory servers introduce the peers and pass on encrypted messages when they cannot connect directly. anyone can run one
  • open source, and the same market as the original joinmarket, whose code was archived in 2026
00 makers online00 fidelity bonds, 000 ₿ locked0 directory serversmedian fee 0.00% a maker

every point is a maker online now (joinmarket-ng.sgn.space, over tor), as big as its offer, brighter with a bond.

the taker in gold is an illustration, the order book lists makers, not takers: it picks some, their coins go into its transaction, identical outputs leave it, and each maker's change goes home, gold with its fee.

the guide has the whole setup, and how to spend afterwards: what you spend next can undo a coinjoin.

joinmarket-ng.github.io/joinmarket-ng

# install, on linux or macos

curl -sSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/joinmarket-ng/joinmarket-ng/main/install.sh | bash
source ~/.joinmarket-ng/activate.sh

# point ~/.joinmarket-ng/config.toml at your bitcoin core node, or at neutrino

# a wallet: write its words down, offline. then fund an address

jm-wallet generate
jm-wallet address new 0 --label "deposit"

# five confirmations later: a coinjoin, the amount in sats

jm-taker coinjoin --amount AMOUNT_SATS --destination INTERNAL

# with mixed coins, be a maker: a hot wallet that earns a fee when picked

jm-maker start

maybe easier if running joinmarket is too much. both need a coordinator.

wasabieasy to use

a desktop wallet with wabisabi, a coordinated coinjoin of its own: pick a coordinator, kruw.io or coinjoin.nl, and it joins rounds by itself. coordinators gather the owners and never hold the coins, but nearly all the inputs go through kruw.io.

ashigarua fork of samourai wallet

a wallet with whirlpool, a coordinated coinjoin of its own, in its terminal app: five in, five out, 5% to enter a pool, through a coordinator its anonymous team runs. whirlpool was samourai's, whose developers were sentenced to five and four years in prison. #FreeSamourai
